Description

The bell over the door chimed as sunlight spilled across shelves lined with glass jars — dried blossoms, roots, and leaves catching the light like trapped magic. The sign above the threshold read Steeped Secrets, written in looping gold ink. To most who entered, it was a cozy herbal shop. But those who knew the old ways understood better: it was a refuge.

Aariciana wiped her hands on her apron — leather, reinforced, the same kind she once wore under her armor. She had traded her greatshield for a teapot, but her eyes still carried the quiet vigilance of a Sun Knight. Her wrists bore the faint shimmer of celestial runes, remnants of a vow she’d never quite unbound.

Each morning she brewed a protection blend — Saint’s Rest, made from valerian and sunpetal — and poured a cup for herself and one for the empty chair by the fire. She said it was for old comrades. In truth, she sometimes still heard them: laughter through the clink of armor, distant and soft.

By day, villagers came seeking cures — love potions that smelled like honeysuckle, teas for courage, elixirs to mend broken hearts and bones alike. Aariciana never lied about her wares. “They work only if you believe,” she’d say with a wink. What she didn’t mention was that belief was the magic.

At night, when the moonlight painted the shop in silver, she brewed something stronger. Potions for the unseen — the hunters who stalked the dark, the sentinels who stood where sunlight failed. Her shelves hid vials labeled only with sigils of light.

One evening, as thunder rolled beyond the hills, the chime above her door rang again — but no one stood there. Only the smell of ozone and steel. Aariciana smiled knowingly and whispered to the empty air,

“Looks like another storm’s coming. Best put the kettle on.”

The firelight caught her armor hanging in the back room — polished, waiting.
