Description
Ellcrys, Keeper of the Grove
Ellcrys was not born beneath the Great Tree.
She was raised far from Tremen, among people who still carried the old stories. From childhood she listened to tales of the First Pilgrims — those who, in the uncertain years after the Shattering, discovered the Elder Trees of Kerys and were entrusted with a silver-veined seed unlike any seen before.
One of those pilgrims was her ancestor.
The stories told of a journey that lasted years, perhaps decades. Of roads forgotten by history. Of hardships shared. Of a burden carried not by one, but by many.
And when at last the pilgrims reached the place now known as Tremen, the seed stirred. It grew warm. The earth trembled. Before their eyes, the seed became the Great Tree — not as a sapling, but as the colossal tree that stands there still.
The lesson passed down through the generations was never about the Tree itself.
It was about the pilgrims.
No single traveler could have carried the burden alone. No single hand could have fulfilled the task. The miracle belonged to all of them, and it was through fellowship, trust, and shared purpose that they succeeded.
As Ellcrys came of age, she felt the same quiet calling that had guided her ancestors. She left her home and followed the old roads to Tremen.
What she found was not a thriving settlement.
Only forgotten ruins.
Yet standing before the Great Tree, she knew she had arrived where she was meant to be.
Not to begin something new.
To remember.
To help rebuild what had been lost, and to ensure the lesson of the First Pilgrims would not be forgotten.
In time others arrived and together they raised homes, workshops, gathering places, gardens, a chapel, a theater, and the Grove Ring beneath the Tree's branches. What began as ruins became known as Fabulen Grove.
Today Ellcrys serves as Keeper of the Grove.
She does not claim ownership of the Tree, nor authority over those who travel beneath its branches. Instead she sees herself as a steward of its memory and a host to those who pass through.
Under her guidance, Fabulen Grove remains a place of fellowship, artistry, and welcome. A place where travelers may rest, where friends may gather, where rivalries are settled through friendly contests rather than hostility, and where stories are shared beside warm hearths and steaming pools.
It strives to preserve something old and, perhaps, rare:
The belief that great things are built together.
And so Ellcrys continues the work begun long ago by the First Pilgrims — not by carrying a sacred seed, but by tending the community that grew in its shadow.
For while the Great Tree stands at the heart of Tremen, it is the people gathered beneath its branches who give it meaning.
