Description
Elryck of House O'mara is the High Lord of Oathsworn, Lord of Oathsworn Castle, and Keeper of Ravenhall. From his seat in Llydaw, he governs the affairs of Oathsworn, presides over its council, receives foreign envoys, and represents the people of Oathsworn among the houses and orders of the realm.
Elryck was born in the Ardennes, where House O'mara held Ravenhall beneath the boughs of the Golden Oak. He was raised during the rule of his father, Thoryk O'mara, until war and upheaval brought an end to the old order. Ravenhall fell, Thoryk died, and the clans of the Ardennes were left divided.
In the years that followed, Elryck worked to bring the clans together again. Through diplomacy, alliances, and war when necessary, they were eventually united into the Kingdom of Ardennes, with Elryck serving as its first King.
The kingdom did not last. Over time the clans scattered, old bonds weakened, and Ardennes ceased to exist as a unified realm. Rather than continue to claim a crown over a kingdom that no longer existed, Elryck buried the crown in the Ardennes and laid aside the title of King.
Those who remained together became known as the Oathsworn.
Ravenhall was eventually raised again, and the Oathsworn continued through years of migration and changing lands. Their journey ultimately carried them east to Llydaw, following the path of Solhart, the Golden Stag, where they established Oathsworn Castle as their new home.
Elryck thereafter took the title of High Lord, governing alongside the council, elders, knights, craftsmen, builders, and families that make up Oathsworn. His authority is one of responsibility rather than ownership; Oathsworn belongs to its people, not to the lord who leads them.
His role is largely political and administrative. He manages relations with neighbouring houses and orders, receives visitors and envoys, settles disputes, oversees the affairs of Oathsworn Castle, and works with the council on matters affecting the wider community. Diplomacy is generally his preferred approach, though he remains a Knight of Oathsworn and fights alongside them when necessary.
Military affairs are centred at Oathsworn Keep, where Elryck relies upon the General and Knights charged with its defence, while Ravenhall and Oathsworn Castle remain at the heart of Oathsworn's political, social, and cultural life.
Elryck no longer seeks to rebuild the Kingdom of Ardennes. His concern is with what Oathsworn has become: protecting the people and their lands, preserving their history, maintaining friendships beyond their borders, and ensuring that the oath binding the community together endures.
