Description
The Many Faced Spirit
She had been many things: healer, wanderer, trickster, wytch. To some, she was the Spirit of the Red Woods, whose laughter once settled over Emberlight like dawn mist over still water. Those who truly knew her say her deepest magic was not fire nor charm, but kindness—the sort that bends instead of breaking, even when it should.
But kindness, once, cost her dearly.
She had tried to save another, someone everyone else had already marked as lost. She stepped between fear and its chosen quarry, hoping the village might learn that difficult choices are not the same as cruel ones. That mercy, offered at the right moment, can change an ending.
The Ash and the Silence
Fear is a poor listener. Her gesture seemed strange to them; her silence, dangerous; her protection, something else entirely. A small misstep, a word unsaid, a truth held too gently...became the thread fear tugged until the whole cloth of trust unraveled.
Emberlight is no more. Its stones scattered like ash carried off in the wind. Only the clearing remains now. Scorched, yes, but blooming in the way stubborn things do. From those embers, the surviving Coven bound themselves together as House Revenant, retreating to the rugged region of Dregr to raise the hidden walls of Ashenholde. No one saw Xaya leave the original clearing. Only the ash-ring and the faintest trace of someone who chose not to return hurt for hurt, silently keeping watch over the survivors as they learned to breathe again.
The Chronicles of Trecassis and Tursan
For Xaya, the road eastward was a return to familiar ground, though it detoured to follow the Coven's ongoing journey. When the winds of change called House Revenant to leave Ashenholde behind, they moved onward into the region of Dolavon to forge a new anchor at the Stag's Rest. Xaya lingered just long enough to smile upon the fresh timber and watch old friends stubbornly reshape the earth.
Beyond that, she had walked the halls of the Priory of the Pillars for many moons and through many incarnations. Her name flickers in the archives of Trecassis and Tursan like a recurring dream. She remains an outsider to the pews; she never truly understood the weight of faith or the complexities of religion, but she holds a profound respect for the Pillars' dedication and their craft.
One of her favorite haunts have always been the Priory gardens, through several floods no less. She finds a peculiar joy in the way a vine claims a stone wall, and she is oddly amused by the world's strangeness; the way a gargoyle’s expression changes in the rain, or how the most powerful scholars can be flummoxed by a simple, stubborn weed. It is precisely this playful wildness that calls her now to the grand, dusty halls of the Arcane University, where she intends to teach the esteemed scholars a thing or two about the magic that breathes outside their rigid textbooks—a tenure she is quite certain they do not yet realize they have offered her.
Yet, despite this ancient lineage, when the invitation arrived to contribute to the Garden of the Redeemers, Xaya felt a flicker of genuine bewilderment. She felt honored and deeply humbled—but also a little confused. She, who had watched her own home turn to ash, was now being asked to build a monument for the ages. She wondered if the Pillars truly knew who they were asking, or if they simply saw a light in her that she was too modest to name.
The Seventh Ward: "The Spark"
Xaya chose Eleleth, the Seventh Redeemer, as her subject. She felt a profound kinship with the Seeker of Hidden Knowledge—the one who confronted the darkness with the resilient strength to endure corruption without becoming it. Her sculpture, "The Spark," is an offering to the future of the world.
- The Vision: Inspired by the moment the "Nothing" is defeated by a single act of imagination, the piece features an elegant hand delicately holding a lantern.
- The Symbol: The lantern represents a "simple spark," the last grain of sand from which a new world is born. It is a tribute to the power of a single wish and a reminder that even in the face of total darkness, the human spirit holds the light needed to begin again.
- The Secret Detail: While the sculpture is dedicated to the world, those who look closely at the base—perhaps where the light of the lantern casts its softest shadow—will find a tiny, hand-etched script. It is a private dedication to Lachlan, a name whispered in the Tursan archives and held in the quietest chambers of Xaya's heart.
She carries no bitterness. Only a lesson and a quiet hope that the world may one day forgive itself as she has already forgiven it. Now, those who wander the Trecassis region might find traces of her magic tangled in the stubborn vines near the Garden, a lingering spark left behind. The world waits, hushed and hopeful, to see where she will build her next beginning.
For though Emberlight is no more, Xaya’s story has always been one of starting over—stranger, wiser, and still alight.
